My name is Katie James, and I’m honoured to introduce myself as the new headteacher here at Spark Vale Academy. With over 20 years of experience, particularly in supporting learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN) from ages 6 to 19, I am deeply committed to providing an inclusive and nurturing environment where all children can succeed and feel valued.

I believe that education is about much more than academic learning. It’s about developing our children’s full potential - emotionally, socially, and academically. Student wellbeing will always be at the forefront of everything we do. I am passionate about embedding mental health support, communication skills, and regular movement breaks into our school day to ensure that every child feels happy, focused, and engaged.

I am also committed to working closely with you, our parents and carers. Your involvement is key to creating a strong support network for your child, and together, we can provide real-time support that reduces the need for specific interventions or social care. I believe in open, honest communication and am always here to listen, share, and collaborate to ensure your child’s needs are met.
